Representatives from UArctic’s 90 member institutions and organizations will convene in Bodø over the five days to discuss issues facing the Circumpolar North and specific issues within UArctic; such as membership applications and program development.

Featured is a panel discussion, conducted in English, with Norway’s Minister of Fisheries Helga Pedersen, a representative for the Sámi peoples, representatives from the fisheries and the Norwegian oil industry, the organization for Nature and Youth and a Northern Area expert.  They will discuss one of the most important issues in Norwegian politics: ‘Can oil and gas go hand in hand with the fishery and tourism industries in the North?’

“We can expect a lively debate in which many of the challenges related to oil and gas development in the High Northern areas of the world will be discussed such as; management of natural resources, effects on fishing and other natural resources, economic and social  development, advantages and disadvantages for indigenous people.” says meeting organizer Peter Glanfield.

Also on the Bodø program are several cultural excursions around the Bodø area. More information on the Council meeting and Bodø can be found by visiting our private site.
