The forum is organised by the Cold Climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC) and the University of Alaska Fairbanks,  in partnership with the Northern Forum and in conjunction with the International Polar Year.

This first forum, entitled "Sustainable Northern Shelter in a World of Diminishing Resources", will present an opportunity for an international group of builders, architects, building scientists and planners to discuss common challenges and to exchange solutions to producing sustainable, appropriate and durable buildings and infrastructures in the Circumpolar North.

The event will feature panel discussions and keynote presentations which will be web cast to a cluster of town meetings in northern communities.

The topics to be discussed during the two-day event include: Building Science and Construction in the North, Energy and Alternative Energy Systems and Infrastructures, Appropriate Sustainable Design of Building and Communities, Integration of Ideas and Development of Future Agenda. International leaders in each of those fields are expected to take part in the forum.

A registration form is now available online on the Forum's website. The registration deadline is September 30, 2007. Please note that the number of participants is limited to 175, so those who register early will have priority.
