Polar Research has been publishing international scientific research on the polar regions since 1982. Norwegian Polar Institute publishes the journal via Co-Action Publishing in Stockholm. The editor-in-chief is Helle V. Goldman, and the journal has an international panel of subject editors and editorial support from a panel of experts from all over the world.

According to a poll conducted by the website Environmentalsciencedegree.com, Norwegian Polar Institute's electronic journal Polar Research was ranked in the top class among the world's best online resources on climate change.
