The Juho Vainio Foundation invites applications for its grants for research on public health. These support research and other activities that promote public health and healthy lifestyles. The deadline for this call is 30 September 2015.

Public Health is moving forward on the special issue related to ‘Extreme Epidemiology’ to be published in fall 2016, and the editors are in process of developing a list of potential authors and manuscripts until Sept 1, 2015. The focus is on epidemiology in extreme climates, including the Arctic and the tropics.

30 Russian and German students participated in the International Summer School "Path to the North" organized by Tyumen State University.

Representatives of indigenous peoples took part in the project "School for Young Leaders-2015". Young people from six districts of Sakhalin arrived in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to gain leadership skills. This experience will help in their future social activities aimed at protection of indigenous peoples’ interests and rights.

The 8th Northern Research Forum (NRF) Open Assembly will merge with the Trans Arctic Agenda and take place in Reykjavik, Iceland on 14-15 October 2015. The theme of 2015 is Engaging Cultural Heritage when Building Resilience. The NRF Open Assembly emphasizes open discussion and the participation of young researchers.

The UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Extractive Industries organizes a PhD course together with the Arctic Energy Summit in Fairbanks, Alaska in September 24-30, 2015. Applications are still accepted for the course.
