The three positions are part of a large interdisciplinary project that aims to understand and quantify how processes during the Arctic winter may be decisive for overall feedbacks from Arctic tundra to the global climate. This interdisciplinary project will advance basic knowledge of plant and microbial activities during the cold season. The project will further assess the environmental drivers and community traits that may be used to up-scale and predict effects of asynchronies on year-round carbon and nitrogen balances of tundra. Position 1 and 2 will be based in Abisko, Sweden (with course work in Umeå), position 3 in will be based in Umeå, Sweden (with fieldwork in Abisko).

Applicants should have field experience and interest in the area of the position of interest (ie., carbon cycling in Arctic terrestrial ecosystems, plant-soil-microbe interactions in Arctic ecosystems, or remote sensing of Arctic terrestrial ecosystems), and an academic background in ecology, physical geography, or similar field. The successful applicants should have the ability to write and speak in English, creativity, power of initiative, independence, good interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate.

Applications, written in English or Swedish, should include:
